Sunday around 9 p.m. a fire completely destroyed, 60 rooms of a rooming house (built in wood with tin roof) where there were more than 300 Haitians in an irregular situation, as well as a residence, both located at Calle Principal of the sector La Piña (Municipal District Pueblo Nuevo de Mao) in the Dominican Republic.

The incident fortunately caused no casualties according to firefighters, but at least 300 of our compatriots have lost everything and find themselves at the street.

A candle left burning in a room inhabited by at least 3 Haitian families, could be the cause of this accident, according to a neighbor's testimony. The fire required the intervention of several units of the Fire Department of Valverde, before being controlled. Inspectors of the Fire Department reported that a thorough investigation had begun, in order to know the exact cause of the fire whose damage is estimated at around 2 million pesos. The destroyed buildings were owned by two Dominican who rented these minimalist housing and comfortless to Haitian.
