Implemented in several border towns : Savanette, Thiotte, Anse à Pitre, Grand Gosier, Lascahobas, Belladère, Fond Verrettes and Ganthier these projects funded to the tune of 2.8 million euros by the European Union, are realized with Haitian and international NGOs and several town halls.
These projects are covering among others the reforestation of degraded areas, the rehabilitation of gullies, support to agricultural production, the strengthening of local authorities or the organization of educational activities to the environment. Note that most of these activities require high labor intensity which will create jobs along the border.
These activities fall under the binational program Haiti - Dominican Republic. Similar projects on the other side of the border, also for €2.8 million, are deployed reflecting the importance of binational cooperation and preservation of the environment for the European Union.
