Dominican Republic -  Vigilance at the Dominican Consulate in Ouanaminthe, Haiti northeast, was beefed up Monday as protests were announced by Haitians the town near Dajabón, EFE reports.
 
According to military sources and Haiti authorities, UN Peacekeepers (MINUSTAH) and Haiti National Police will be in charge of the heightened security, together with Dominican Border Security (Cesfront) troops.

The Dominican Army also deployed antiriot troops to increase patrols at the cross-border market held Mondays and Fridays in Dajabon, on reports that Haitians would boycott the activity.

Although with fewer Haitians than usual, business was nearly normal, according to vendors quoted by acento.com.do.

Cesfront troops headed by commander Carlos Aguirre Reyes were posted at strategic sites along the Masacre River and the border bridge, to deal with any turmoil.
